Norelijun - Pigs

Rate:5/5

Now, that's the music!
This is one of the tunes that makes me believe in music. The composition is a very eleborate nad sophisticated journey through the rock avantgarde. He can hear a little bit of The Residents in vocals and general atmosphere, a piece of Primus in a rhythm section, Snakefinger and perhaps even Fred Frith in guitars. It's intelligent, intelectual even, very neatly produced and melodic enough to be cherished by people that generally don't dig such kind of music. One can only ask for more.

Carmina - Demo

Rate:10/10

This is one heavy set of really heavy, brutal music. I loved it.
Although it's only fifteen minutes, Carmina presents us with a quarter
of real non-stop brutal death-metal mayhem, a thing that any fan of this
music genre would love. Most of tracks don't have more than 3 minutes (the last one,
Et ils connaitront la peur is the only exception), but that was a right decision,
because there's no time to get too soft and mild here. My favourite track on the record is Evangelion - a minute and a half clash of growling, engaging riffs and perfect rhythm section. One cannot avoid comparison to Obituary's Chopped In a Half, or some Cryptopsy albums here.
I would love to see guys live and the atmospheric, fin-de-siecle cover is yet
another advantage. It's ten out of ten ladies and gentelmen.

Neko Rei - Wobble Mouse (Unmastered)

Rate:5/5

Very professional, very neat
It's a nice track. I do recommend it. Now, to details. First of all, I really like the background droning sample reminding me of Didgeridoo Aphex Twin's records. After that we have a really neatly sequenced and professionally produced drumming. It makes one dancing, and this is what's the more important here, I think. I liked also ambient keyborads reminding me Future sound of London, ORb or any of these electronic bands that were really progressive in the 90's. This tune is one nice journey back into days electronica wasn't just a soundtrack but it was a way of perceiving reality. A thing to enjoy.

The latest review of Breakfast in Tanger

Trippy

A very mellow set of ambient tracks that fit together really nicely. If I had to pick a favourite track, it would probably be Surrounded by Opera Smoke but the whole album has been produced top a very high standard.

What can I say?

7 Fool Moons Superbonuspack 2/2

Rate:9/10

An idea to release a remix album of Seven Moons was a splendid one. I enjoyed most of the tracks on the album, but I paid special attention to Jeff Crystal’s rmx (an extremely neat rebirth of minimal Detroit techno – a hardfloor version I was looking for a long time) of Moon 4 and Fluydo’s remix of their Moon 1 track. That one has such a nice bass line and catchy chorus that any remix of it would be a great tune, but that one is a really interesting extension of the original composition. In summary, sometimes you’re afraid with remixes, that the spirit of the source they come from would vanish, but it doesn’t happen here. It was truly handle with care and remixers’ effort really paid off.
As I put it before, the only shame is the cover. Sinlge covers were very much recognizable, and the current one not so much. One point down, but still it is nine and a truly recommendable piece of music.

Dualistic Nature - One In the Grave

Rate:4/5

Highly recommendable
This tune is crude, with a hard, electronic beat, aggressive lirycs and almost diabolic guitar riff. Well... What one needs from Industrial music? This is exactly what a real Ministry-fan should enjoy.

Fluydo’s superpack is one of the nicest surprises of this year. The tunes on the first CD have been already presented, but it’s an extremely brilliant idea to gather them in order to understand the whole concept behind the tracks. All of Fluydo’s Moons are quite interesting, but my favourites are Moon 1 (the only one with male vocals – very much similar to Roger Walters’ one), Moon 3 (the one that resembles Goldfrapp the most, but at the same time is the most catchy one on the record), and Moon 7 (a pleasant surprise for the end of the album; extremely engaging trumpet samples and very smooth melody). If you like a clash between Moloko, Goldfrapp and contemporary electro-rock, Fluydo’s record is definitiely for you.
The only shame is the cover. Sinlge covers were very much recognizable, and the current one not so much. One point down, but still it is nine and a truly recommendable piece of music.

Ghost Come Back (San Diego, CA) - Silence

Rate:4/5

Monumental but nice
This song is a really nice example how not to spoil a seven minute-long composition. I don't really liked the production (well... I compare such stuff with Archive or The Mars Volta so amateurs always lose, but still...) but I did enjoyed a tune as a whole. There's nice emotional touch at the beginning of it and great instrumental rock mayhem at the end. What's more one may ask? It's a recommendable piece, that's for sure. I .loved the melody, lyrics, guitar riffs.

Fauna – Have u ever talked to angels?

Rate:10/10

I haven’t found a record that doesn’t lack anything on jamendo for a lomg time, so when I found Fauna’s - Have u ever talked to angels I was more than happy. This subtle dark-trip hop album is what a Creative Commons connoiseur may really appreciate. Almost every piece there is worthy listener’s attention, so let’s talk about each of them.
Slowly – very engaging, atmospheric piece with great vocals and extremely interesting rhythm section. The words are quite gloomy, but that’s why it’s called trip-hop and not pop.
14th floor – one may see Portishead’s influence here, but it’s got such an intense mood that one may not take it as a vice, but an advantage.
Daily sick, casual sick – great samples, a deep-dark mood, exactly the way it should be.
Dreamless – it gets more melodic there, but more in Mo’Wax or Warp style than Aguillera one. Add very professional use of reverbs in production and one may imagine what’s the piece like.
Emptiness – the composition has nice vocal samples and space-like atmosphere (some Kid Koala influence, perhaps?) and it’s a little bit ambiental but still it doesn’t lose this specific Fauna touch.
Hollow morning – that one is a real masterpiece. Natalia Careva (a featuring vocalist here) takes us into a dreamy, sentimental trance trip one won’t forget soon.
Wasteland – the tune clashes between 20’s samples and Portishead-like mood. Yummy.
Hyperlite love – I think the most electronic one on the record. Solid, however a little bit uninventive compared with the rest of the record.
Rainbawl – next electronic one. A tune that very neatly mixes female voice with almost Kraftwerk–like sounds.
Tomorrow – a nice, melancholic goodbye, reminding me a little bit of Tryad’s tunes.

It’s ten out of ten, ladies and gentelmen. I can’t wait to hear their next album, really.

Rogue Frequency - Bridges

Rate:3/5

Poor production
The first thing that comes to your mind when you listen to it is very underground production. It sounds as it was recorded in a garage on a tape recorder. vocals are more hard-rock than indie, and guitars and mood generally folk-rock and not indie. As for violin... Was there any? Generally, though the composition is interesting one it needs to be rearranged and recorded once more.

Flatmax - Wideband Cold Fusion

Rate:7/10

I must say that I enjoyed his record much more than the previous The underground isn't finished with me. At Wideband Cold Fusion, the artist presents a mix of dark hip-hop and electronica, and though it’s not a perfect album there are moments that one may find interesting. The best tunes, in my humble opinion, are Android War and Central Transmission. The first is a nice journey in Dr Doom-style, while the second it’s very experimental and may not be appreciated by people that look for more chilled out compositions. Flatmax is generally disturbing and one has to deal with that ;-) Of course, there are moments that are simply boring or too much formal in its experiment for example, Fresh Region or Dyly Zone, the things that shouldn’t be called pieces, more an experiment documentation. I think if Flatmax tried to do some singles first, and than hit for a full LP that would have been better because people would have had time to get used to his quite difficult, perhaps even annoying style. It’s seven or now, but I look forward to other recordings, as it may be an interesting thing with time.

Uniform Motion - Citizen Grave

Rate:5/5

Professional and intelligent music
I must say that the piece hit me in the right place. It's gentle but with this neurotic twist that makes rock indie and notBon-Jovi. Lead vocals are very in a genre type. Lazy, sharp but melodic and gentle at the same time. Production is very professional with all the sound details audible. If you like postrock-indie (for example Arab Strap or Broken Social Scene) not easy but rewarding kind of music this is a place to be!

Macroform – Eclipse

Rate:8/10

It’s a solid piece of electronica, though it didn’t shake my view of the music scene. I quite enjoyed ambiental Eclipse, very melodic Juno Back and Aphex Twin-like Transient. My favourite track however is Feeling In space. In spite of a little bit pompatic title this is a really nice piece of ambient stuff very much similar to a Warp Records productions. Next, Into the Sea is quite similar and creates a nice musical trilogy with Swoosh, a composition that ends the whole album. Although there’s no thing I haven’t heard before on Eclipse it’s still recommendable as the production is quite professional.

Mike Brindisi & The New York Rock - Trailer Park Girl

Rate:3/5

Too cliche
The biggest problem with that band is that they cannot decide whethwer they want to be Nirvana or Aerosmith. I liked the riff and the Cobain-like (although a little bit too smooth) vocal. The problem is that chorus is melodic is the sense hunderd other bands have it, that means one forgets about it after onel istenning. If the band would work on being a little bit more original that it would work, because both production and performance are really professional.

Sergio Naddei - Chamber Music

Rate: 10/10

It’s not very common that people composing contemporary classical avantgarde music give away their albums on jamendo, so one may look at Chamber Music with suspicion. Well... He diesn’t have to. This two-piece record is a real gem through Creative Commons classical stuff. The composition is really well-written and skillfully performed with all those little distortions and aleatorations one expects from post-Cage, post-Schonberg classical music. It’s a truly expetional stuff, highly recommendable to every eleborated listener.

RedWaterDub - WHAT IS THAT THING FOR?

Rate: 5/5

Truly experimental
It's a weird record, but I quite enjoyed it. Psychotic vocals (sorry, psychedelic ;-) interesting acoustic guitar and gentle rhythm section make this tune really a thing to ponder on. I like the atmosphere here, mixing experiment with melodies and quite easy-listening production and balancing that all, not an easy thing to achieve but it worked in this case. The chorus floats over the whole composition, quite hard to catch on it but the weirs samples through the song make it up for it. ;-) Generally, a ten out of ten.

Elder Statesmen - Windy Way

Rate:5/5

Simply amazing!!!
I loved this record and I hope my enthusiasm won't be flawing with time. This tune has a light, melodic psychedelic atmosphere. I quite appreciated unusual rhythm section (clinks and clanks but very subtle and classy). Vocal is also one of the highlights. Maybe I have heard it before (Syd Barret with Pink Floyd, Archive) but it realy fits into the whole composition. The band has learnt its lesson of a classical but innovative song-writing in full. I give it the highest-rate recommendation.

Nick Gray - Solo Artist - What We Are

Rate:4/5

Melodic and not invasive
This song it's very nice example of a modern-pop. It's not Madonna-like overproduced plastic product but live, melodic music from live, melodic people. I liked the professional vocals, nice and veryb subtle rhythm beat and folk-rock guitar. There should be more compositions like that around. I think this tune could be a minor hit in more college-oriented radio stations. Job well done!!!

SaReGaMa - Lucky Number Seven (single)

Rate: 9/10

It’a nice exotic, orient trip, mixing in a quite swift way ambient, smooth jazz and ethinc music. Hamelin Beringnier, the only track on the record has very professional production and the composition is perfromed both skillfully and with passion. I loved the moment when the trumpets came, doubling the leit motif. Generally, although a little bit duplicate, the single by SaReGaMa is very much recommendable.

Racine - Let It Get Away

Rate:4/5

Enjoyable and professional
This tune is a solid piece of indie music. The guitar creates very nice background but it can put the drama of the composition further when it's necessary to play harder. The vocals are very melodic and quite pro. I like the rhythm of the tune, a little bit melancholic, a little bit march-like and the harmonica that appears here and there. It's like indie version of some Neil Young rercords. Very amiable!!!

Roger – Broken Think

Rate: 9/10

It’s not an easy record. This one is dedicated to more sophisticated listeners, which is quite ok with me ;-). I’ve been looking for an interesting experimental record on jamendo for a quite long time and I’m pretty proud that one I found is from my native country. Broken Thing consists of a genre journey between DJ Food, contemporary ambient and experimental electronica. It starts with almost unaudible extremely ambiental Around myself, a piece that may discourage people looking for catchy tunes. Sounds become much more pleasant with Unknown melody, a jazz reconstruction in a style of To Rocococ Rot. Next three compositions are much more ambiental, in a way reminding me of FSOL or ORB but in a more experimental dimension. Last, eponymous tune is another silence/bruit exploration, when the latter can really make music!
Overall, Broken Think is an album to recommend to anyone that wants something more from the composer than just catchy chorus songs. It’s enganging, interesting and innovative. The cover is a little bit cliche so it’s one point down, but it’s still nine for me. Keep ther wheels turning, Roger!

Midnight Songstress - Paper House

Rate:3/5

Interesting
This tune sounds more like Kate Bush-like, a little bit artistic pop than reggae but still it's an intersting piece of music. Lead vocals are smooth and engaging, however the melody is not easy to catch here. Generally, the song was not meant to be a disco hit, which is a good thing, however some more production would do there. I miss live instruments the most here. I know it's 21st century but midi doesn't do all, believe me.

Oceansea – Songs From The Bedroom Floor

Rate: 8/10

Oceansea’s EP consists of five acoustic guitar songs, which I must say quite impressed me. The compositions reminds me of The Beatles (Breathing) or grunge music acoustic albums (Over The Sun). It has to be admitted that Daniel Catarino learned his music lessons well. I truly liked the pieces, because they are really skillfully written and very neatly performed. What I miss however, is an arrangement. There is only one instrument on the record, and one has to be Johhny Cash to record perfect songs with that. I would love to listen to the Songs From The Bedroom Floor performed by a whole band. For now it’s eight, and I wait for more.

Planet Tuba - inscape

Rate:4/5

Pleasant and smooth
This is a nice electronica piece, maybe more ethnic or world-fusion than ecperimental but still... The mood is exotic (at least for someone from the Western Culture) and pleasant. What I have to mention, however, is that the whole thing is a little bit underproduced (samples sounds too midi).

Rate:4/5

Has everything in a right place
This is a tune worth recommending. It goes away from a one-minute song punk cliche, and although I would say it's more rock than punk it's a positive comment, pointing out bands courage to mix styles. Guitars are very energetic and loud, solos are quite skillful. Riff is heavy, almost trance-like. The vocals are not merely shouting but has its dramaturgy in choirs. Generally, two thumbs up!

Revolution Void – The Politics of Pleasure

Rate: 9/10

The third Revolution Void production available on jamendo still has this specific electro-jazz flavour as usual, but at the same it’s slightly different in terms of emphasis on the technical side of the recording. When I listened to The Politics of Pleasure for the first time, I thought that guys from Revolution Void wanted to prove to themselves that they can do extremely crafty performed and neatly produced album. As far as I hear they succeded. The first three pieces is a constant show of technical proficiency on a double high speed. Only Tree Tenants slows down for a minute, but it’s an exception on a LP.
My favourite tunes are Time Flux – a very smooth example of how you may connect phat beats with enjoyable, almost flamenco samples, and How Exciting with sound that reminds me of the classic Deee-Lite’s hit Groove is in the Heart. The only remark I have is that the record is much less experimental compared to the previous two. I suppose my disappointment comes from my high expectations, because if it was a debut album I would pay respect to such a band. With Revolution Void however, I expect them to set new trends and not to repeat sounds that has been already recorded and are well-known (some songs on The Politics of Pleasure resemble Gotan Project, quite a manistream band nowadays). It’s two points down for that, but the record is sensational, so overall it’s nine because it’s still Revolution Void – a classy band with a classy music.

Alien Pi - 100 Years

Rate:4/5

Old-fashioned but catchy
I must I enjoyed the tune. Bass line is melodic and well-produced. Lyrics are also good, not very pompatic which often happens with other groups, and there is an intersting speech sample at the end. The sound is adequate, although not very modern, but it's an advantage because it reminds me of the times of psychedelic-rock or Manchester sound. Generally a tune worth listening.

HiFi Hustlers - Blagging It EP

Rate:10/10

Quite astonishing (and I don’t say about the perfect cover! ;-). HiFi Hustlers created nice blend of Ninja Tune, Bomb The Bass and a modern dub style. They don’t lose a beat pulse for a second here, while the production is quite classy. Ok, about the tunes:
- power_version – very nice dub production with phunky rhythm section and interesting Jamaican vocal sample leitmotif.
- freedom – another tune created around speech sample. This time, the beat is more electro-sleazy, but still head and legs moving.
- thirteen – the most dub-like on the record. Lazy beats and keyboard sample reminding of early Ninja Tune chillouts with a solid reverb flavour.
- waves – my favourite on the record. Catchy, melodic piece with an ambient touch. Another great recording to my CC collection.
Generally, it is one of the coolest things I’ve managed to listen on jamendo. Hope to hear more from guys.

The Mudslingers - Another Long Lonely Night

One word: great!!!
This song has everything i need from a good punk-rock tune. It has this "wasted loser" attitude (the words: I stumbled at the door etc.). It has a simple, powerful, almost rock'n'roll riff that holds the whole composition together and makes my head bangin' and legs movin'. The obligatory solo in the middle of the song is far from being corny, and very switly transports the rest of the song into the melodic chorus. Moreover, it doesn't have anything of the pop-punk thing. The production is raw and garage, just the way it should be. It's 5+ ladies and gentelman!!!

Ant on Wax feat.Noar - Information

Rate:9/10

There’s been a while since I heard such a neat and nice EP. Ant on Wax very skillfully revolve around hardbeat-electronica and smooth indie-pop. I like this record mainly because of the Loser, which is the thing I’ve been looking for few months, namely, a Creative Commons underground hit. Loser is definitively a song you can hum and whistle, a song so well produced that you don’t believe it’s for free ;-). I’ve already seen this tune at some Creative Commons compilation, so I think the good news spread fast. The other compositions probably won’t be that popular, but it’s very solid piece of music in intelligent and modern style, definitely worth recommending. So, tune in and listen all you Perfect Losers ;-)

Missing Host Band - walk by rote

Rate:8/10

Dark post rock? ok.. It’s experimental, I agree but it’s not THAT dark… Generally it is full of amiable sounds and interesting melodies ( however very much deconstructed, see boring razor for example). The compositions are weird (this is a compliment ;-) only sometimes the production doesn’t fit in, e.g. too plastic and midi drums clashed with an almost hard-rock riff simply deosn’t do the trick (cutting moon). My favourite tracks are mutine, especially the second part of it, when the riff, turntablism, lazy post-rock rhythm and vocal samples blends together into a really (post)modern music trip. The next recommendable piece is alchimie with IDM rhythm and almost calypso melody. I’ve got only one more remark: the tunes are too short. Take roam by rote for example chich begins extremely engaging, and then… it ends after half a minute. I think the composition into get some Tortoise-like length in order to evolve right. Despite these all drawbacks it’s still a nice LP to listen to.

DRIFTED FROM LA, CA - Her World demo

Rate:5/5

One may enjoy it
This tune is a solid piece of acoustic rock. Everything is just what genre requires: A melancholic but strong male vocals, crude but melodic guitar sound, choir plus very atmospheric keyboards in the chorus. The composition is long, but it's not a drawback taking under consideration that lyrics are interesting and the piece has its climax around 3'15". The performance is very professional and the production is very close to perfection. Overall, it's a thing to recommend and listen to.

Do-up - Acoustic Lounge (Live)

Rate:8/10

Do-up's record is nice and fresh, that’s for sure. A little bit poppy, but melodic acid-jazz blends with funk turntablism - a mixture that never fails. The way girl sings is professional, a little bit uninventive and mawkish, but these are genre prerequisites so I don’t complain. The most important thing is the music here, and I must say it’s quite neat and smooth. The best track, in my humble opinion is desert road, a junction when melancholic jazz, electronica and great vocal posibilities of the singer meets. The tune doesn’t bore although it’s almost 8 minutes long!
Overall, it’s 7 for me, because the tunes are not extremely inventive. There are few dozens bands in this genre, as good as Do-up, and Acoustic Lounge is a decent recording, but it doesn’t stick-out from the crowd of similar ones. However, the cover is very stylish so it’s one point up.

MEJ - Play on

Rate:5/5

Good old-rock school flavour
One question: You've been listening to Tom Petty lately, have you? Just joking. If an influence is well used, than it may only do better to the song. This is exactly the case with a tune. It's a 'typical' folk-rock tune with repeated chorus and a broken-man story in the background, but one has to try very hard not to sound funny when trying to create such music. I think that the band was succesful. It keeps balance between melody and mood, it's recorded quite professionally, guitars sounds as if the player knew how to handle it. The riff at the beginning sounds like a mixture of The Police rhythm and Neil Young-like sense of composition. Not corny at all. Mature and nice to listen it's 5 out of 5.

Flatmax - The underground isn't finished with me

Rate:6/10

This rewiev could have just one sentence. It’s too experimantal for me. This record has gone just one bridge too far. Two first tracks, The lion and the U.F.O and Run sounds like Aphex Twin music excursion, but it’s just too drilling to hale any satisfaction from listening to it. Close more jails, and Start believing on the other hand reminds of Madvillain or other Daniel Dumile Project just without his flow and melody. Dog fight is another breakbeat extreme intermission. Overall, it’s not bad if you like to have your guts cut and flesh eaten while sou still alive

The Red Orchestra - Prelude

Rate:5/5

A melancholic emo-drama
I've liked the tune from its very beginning. It's very pleasurable to find such a dramatic and passionate ballad that doesn't end up in ridiculity. The vocalist has a very professional voice which is extremely crucial as the vocals take up most of the sound. The piece has got a very emotional and reflexive mood, the thing hard to find in cynical music of postmodern era. The music reminds me of Creed's rock ballads and some HIM's tunes. The sound is really neat concerning that the band uses only the piano, keyboard and vocals in this song. Overall, two thumbs up.

Louinel Jean/ Jproject - Shadow

Rate:4/5

A very positive vibration
Very melodic, with a nice, catchy chorus. The vocalist has a vocal flavour very similar to Bob Marley's which is good, but I would not exagerrate with such style, not to end up as an inpersonator ;-). The guitars are also very much similar to ones form "Redemption song" but not in melody but more with production, what creates an extremely nice atmosphere. Song is generally one and a half thumb up. I didn't like the initial African humming (to pop-like) and bass could be a little bit deeper. However it's a nice tune, worth recommending to all soft-reggae, roots flavour fans.

VS – No TomorroW EP

Rate: 7/10

After half a year we got a new releaseform VS. The first impression is well… The record is different than previous ones. The first tune, 4mn30, begins with a riff very much similar to Arcade’s Fire Black Mirror, so I expected that it would be something in this style, but after that we don’t get much. This tune would have been nice if some debut band recorded, but after VS-suites one wants some more sophisticated. UT is a much better tune. It starts with an elegant, melancholic piano. After that a stormy guitar and drums take over, what creates really engaging piece of music, reminding me of some sort crossover between Muse and postrock bands. What can we say about Crisis?, the third and the last composition on EP? It sounds like a next part of the previous tune. Also guitars, drums, long melodies passages. This one however has the powerful instrumental outburst I like so much in VS’s music. My favourite track on the record.
Overall is 6, I’m afraid because one third of the record is little bit disappointing, but the cover is enigmatic and stylish as always so it’s a 7.
Don’t do that again guys! I’m waiting for another masterpiece!

This a catchy and engaging tune. Although it's sleazy, it doesn't lose its rock energy. Vocals are sung with a nice, lazy, alternative intonation, so it's also a plus. The samples at the begining of the tune creates industrial-rock mood that goes through the whole piece. The production is also almost perfect, with only some more reverbs needed. Generally, the band sounds like Deine Lakaien or Wolfsheim gothic-industrial stuff, which, in my humble opinion, is enough for a recommendation.

GIANT SQUID MARCH ON WASHINGTON – City

Rate:8/10

This record has everything one expects from a modern alternative-underground album. There is a Godspeed You! Black Emperor- like, Southern psycho-rock first tune soft apocalypse. After that much more melodic, psychedelic the slow death with very interesting vocals by Vivek Shraya. More experimental, electronic etude non? comes next. Noisy the blessing + the glory with sampled tele-evangelist reminds me of Helios Creed and other, now much forgotten noise-rock bands. All the thing is great till two last songs. The acoustic Sunday Morning simply does not fit in with the rest, not mentioning the rap-sound of St. Ides Malt Liquor, which is a doubtful bonus. Taking under considerations those two tunes, I would give an overall note of seven, but the cover is pretty awesome, so it’s eight.
About hearing them live… Bring them on! The more, the merrier! But seriously… They may be quite a neat live-act, so please, do check them if they would be somewhere around.

Stay cool,

Law of One - Calm the Beast

Rate:4/5

Very enganging
Thies record has its own, quite appealing mood. At first, I thought that the first male vocal is a little bit underproduced, but after the second vocalist everything fitted into place. The music here is dark, even a bit obssessive. The keyboard and the drums set overplas each other in a nice, electronica mixture. It sounds like some Fischerspooner or Devoid early demo, but I'm not really such a music erudite to tell the exact influence the band has. Summarizing, nice, trip-like, trance-electronica background journey. One may enjoyed it. Give it a try.

Williamson – the trashcan electric ep

Rate:9/10

What we have here is a very nice collage of ambient, post-rock and electro influences. From the first second of the first tune, sietch kids save us one knows the record is produced neatly. Engaging guitar loops overlap sometimes electronic, sometimes organic melodies giving really nice and atmospheric mixture. My favorite track of the ep is tips for sweet-talking a caribou, which is really cool, not only in production but also in its cold atmosphere! You can sense the North of Canada and of these caribous for real!!! ;-)
I cannot find a weak point in this record’s music. Maybe it’s a little bit blurry if one wants something less ambiental, but I quite like such style, so it’s 10 for me. From the other reviews I’ve heard that Williamson’s previous record is even better, so I can’t wait to get it and to listen to it.
The only drawback is a cover that looks more like some gothic band album rather than ambient or idm one. One point down for that, so it’s nine, but it’s still an amazing and very recommendable piece of music. Check it out!!! It’s worth it.

Steel - Angel's Dance

Rate: 4/5

Nice atmospheric tune
This one is not an ordinary trance-tune. The beat comes pretty late (1' 16'') here, but it's a right choice because, thanks too that, one may enjoys simple but catchy and happy melody of the tune. The best part of the track is when the background melody and beat comes together making this really neat ambient-trance journey (2'00''- 2' 30''). The bass, although soft, fits the whole mood, so it's another advance. The only remark I have is somewhat poor composition. The song simply ends too soon and does not reveal all its values. I recommend creating a 7-minute long remix. Beside this little disadvantage the piece is really engaging and nice to listen.

Missing Host Band – Dusk Gazing

Rate:8/10

The debut Missing Host Band album consists of rough but melodic postrock tunes with some electronica flavour, which is a good thing. I’m a fan of such music, so I quite enjoyed Dusk Gazing. Slow, dirty and reverbed guitar loops connected with not very abundant drums creates very nice, slacking, lazy atmosphere. Even if you’re not keen on post-rock it’s good to listen to it on some afternoon when you do nothing but lay in bed. The best tunes on the record in my humble opinion are: toufic with very ascetic, almost Joy Division sound plus great pitch-ascending melody and easy to popular, very neatly mocking easy listening melodies.
The cover of the record corresponds to the album very neatly and it cues the postrock/ electronic mood. It’s almost estethic, so thumbs up for it.
The only disadvantage is a structural minimalism of the record. It’s not as atmospheric as To Rococo Rot or Tortoise so the album loses a lot not being a little bit more composed. However this is my only remark. I hope that the possible live version would include richer arrangements and longer compositions.

stay tuned,
